Active audiences are the soul of an event. They give life to the event, making it reach full acclaim. For this to happen, there has to be a fine balance between audience energy and the energy the event itself is giving off.

At the 2019 Meristem Greenfest, the audience brought their A-game, and #Unjunk matched it to the very end. The most delightful thing about it is that the workings can show itself when people say “prove it”.
As early as 8am, fitness enthusiasts and festival goers were already at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, the venue of the event. They registered for the variety of sessions available including the yoga and aerobic sessions, which held to prepare the minds of people for other activities of the day.

The yoga session with Lagos-based registered yoga teacher, On Her Mat, thrilled the first set of entrants. Her session which was geared towards spiritual and physical therapy, doused tensions. She made yoga look like a walk in the park.

Seeing a group of fitness enthusiasts in the same space and at the same time isn’t a thing too familiar with Lagos, but Meristem Greenfest made people come together with an air of readiness that’d make concert-goers red with envy.

Bunmi Olunloyo of the Bailamos Dance Company came and demystified dancing. She ended her session leaving her participants with a different perception of what dancing truly is; that dancing can be a viable fitness form.

The morning sessions ended and ushered in talented actor and Lagos big boy, Timini Egbuson and the Lady MC herself, Mojibadeshow, the hosts of the event. They both hit the stage and professionally piloted the event from start to finish.

Sessions by the Shredder Gang, Chaurme Beauty, Ariella Fitness and the finance masterclass all make up an afternoon of intense learning. From tips on how to lose pounds to intense conversations on finance, surely Meristem Greenfest’s #unjunk was more than burning calories.

Popular Chef and renowned YouTuber, Soliat Bada also delivered an engaging cooking session. She introduced a Jollof Quinoa, a healthier alternative to Jollof Rice.

Perhaps one of the most memorable performances of the day was the groovy performance by Segun Johnson’s band. His band gave a wonderful set which lasted over 45 minutes.

The singer treated the fans with familiar and contemporary tunes before hitting them with the more niche Juju vibe. This did not stop people from dancing as they were high on the nostalgia in the atmosphere.

His performance kept the crowd hyped before the evening performance by the headliner, Johnny Drille.

The singer’s electric live performance went from aloof to intimate in moments. Fans and music lovers buzzed and hummed as the singer performed songs from his growing hits list like “Wait For Me”, “Romeo & Juliet”, “My Beautiful Love” and others.

The event rounded off on a strong note with the viewing of the Champions League final match between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
#Unjunk by Meristem Greenfest is officially becoming the biggest gathering of fitfam(ers) and organic products enthusiasts in Nigeria. Watch out for the next edition!
